Spread the love

This true life story happened a couple of years ago, but I’m still ashamed of it.

I have a little sister. She is seven years younger than me. So one day my mom went to the kitchen to cook dinner, and she asked me to watch my little sister. I was only 8 years old, and she was a year old. Of course, babysitting is not the nicest thing in the world, so I just put her on the couch and threw stuffed toys at her. I turned on the TV myself and watched some show, even though I was supposed to be watching the baby. My mother was counting on me, and I thought the manipulation I’d done was enough.

Suddenly something interested me on the balcony, and I stepped away just for a minute. But it was enough time for my nimble sister to fall off the couch onto the floor. The poor baby split her eyebrow and started crying loudly. I was so scared, I ran up to her, but it was too late. My mother came out of the kitchen and started yelling at me hard. And I kept looking at her, and I felt very sorry for my little sister. She cried for a long time, but my mother managed to calm her down. She even took her to the doctor, but nothing serious was found. They just put greenery on the wound.

A lot of time has passed since then. My sister still has a small scar on her eyebrow. Sometimes she has a headache, and every time I blame myself for it. My mother convinces me that it’s because of the pressure, but I still feel guilty.

    Don’t bother – it’s so easy.

Forgive yourself. It happens even to experienced moms, it’s hard to keep track of a child – it’s the age of trauma. And you were a child yourself. It’s your mom’s responsibility. A one-year-old has to be looked after by herself.
